“A Uniform Makes
Everything Easier”
In the mornings, it takes me almost no time to get dressed. I wear essentially the same thing every day, like it’s my uniform, with little variation. On my feet I wear brown loafers, J.M. Weston 180s, and socks from UNIQLO, another shade of brown. I always pick up the same style, but I’m not sure what colors I have. Lately I’ve been wearing lots of brown. It goes great with denim. The ribbing is perfect, just the right degree of casual. I’ll wear these with a pair of medium wash jeans, along with a white T-shirt and gray sweatshirt from UNIQLO. Then of course, a jacket. That’s my style. Whatever I’m doing, I dress the same. I can do my work, ride a bike, go on a date, or grab a drink. It’s perfect for any scenario. In the evenings, I’ll think for a moment and pick out a jacket that’s right for the occasion, but the next morning, I’ll pull on my usual clothes without a thought. This only works if you have confidence in your clothes. You have to take your time and select clothes that work for you. Luckily, I was able to find clothes I really liked.
I must have around twenty Supima cotton T-shirts from UNIQLO. This is basically how I start getting dressed. They’re simple and work well with anything. Whether it’s underneath a sweater, or a jacket, or a shirt. And in the summer, you can wear them on their own. My taste never changes, so I purchase the same model. I became fashion-conscious at an early age. Since I was raised out in the country, there was no fashion to be found, but I was always fixated on clothes. I still remember how when I was eight, I went to a wedding dressed in a seersucker jacket and shorts. After that I went away to boarding school, where I wore the same blue coat every day. Believe it or not, this is where I discovered fashion. One day, a classmate came back from London with some copies of The Face and I-d. What I remember best is being smitten with all these images of clothing I had never seen, much less imagined. Ever since, I’ve been taken by the power of fashion and imagery. This was a gateway into a world of incredible inspiration, where I’d discover culture, music, books and movies. There is a lot going on inside a good piece of clothing.
