Volkswagen: the German automaker with a passionate following across the world. Pick up a set of matching T-shirts for you and your kids and set off in your VW car to a campsite —or wherever the road may lead.
No planning needed for this road trip. All you and your kids need to decide is which Volkswagen UTs you’ll be wearing!
This collection was inspired by the Type 1, Type 2, and Vanagon. The Volkswagen logo is boldly printed across the chest of one design. Another depicts ten alternating images of the front and back of the Beetle, with the city emblem of Wolfsburg, home to the company’s headquarters, on the lower left.
The Type 2 model—commonly known as the Campervan or Bus—entered mass production in 1950 and, like the Type 1, was soon contributing to Volkswagen’s growth. The company later adapted the model into vehicles such as minibuses, ambulances, and fire engines to serve a variety of transportation needs. A Volkswagen ad in a special issue of Rolling Stone magazine in 1995 featured a sketch of a Campervan with a tear spilling out of one headlight, over the caption, “Jerry Garcia 1942–1995.” This memorial was a tribute to the lead guitarist of the Grateful Dead, the legendary U.S. rock band closely associated with the hippie movement. The Deadheads who followed the band from festival to festival often drove Buses, and the weeping Bus symbolized the loss felt by Garcia’s fans. Surely no other car has had such a deep connection with the culture of an era.
This UT collection features motifs based on the Type 1 and Type 2. We hope these designs will please Volkswagen fans and even develop a new generation of car enthusiasts as they learn about the company’s history. Imagine wearing matching tees with your kids as you go camping or road-tripping in a Volkswagen! If you’re a van lifer, you’ll be happy to know that the collection also features the Vanagon, which was often converted into the pop-top camper known as the Westfalia.
