This year marks 70 years since the first “Godzilla” movie was released in 1954. The series of films have been loved by people around the world for such a long time. What is the driving force behind the production team that continues to support the behind-the-scenes work of these series? We interviewed Mr. Toshifumi Shimizu, who worked as an assistant director for many years and has been involved in the production of numerous “Godzilla” series, and Mr. Tatsuji Nojima, VFX artist/compositor for “Godzilla Minus One,” the latest film that drew a great deal of attention, about their production stories and their thoughts on the films.

Toshifumi Shimizu | Joined Toho in 1993. He worked as an assistant director on numerous Godzilla series until “Godzilla Final Wars” (2004). Then he was in charge of producing 4K digitally remastered versions of past Godzilla films and others at Tokyo Laboratory Ltd., a Toho group company in charge of finishing work on films. Currently he is in charge of product development in the Godzilla Room and MD Group.

Tatsuji Nojima | Born in Suginami, Tokyo in 1998, Nojima became interested in VFX production after watching “Back to the Future” and “Pirates of the Caribbean” as a child. In “Godzilla Minus One”, he was responsible for the ocean sequence, inventing a large-scale ocean simulation.
