Summer
Trip to Athens

Follow the sun. Put on some linen and step outside. It’s time for an adventure with Luca from Hungary and Alex from Greece.
Starting with a walk around town, we’ll make a day trip to an island and finish up with the Athenian sunset.

See the styling

Blue stands out against the Athens cityscape. Luca is wearing a seersucker blouse with a skirt in the same pattern. Her gingham shoulder bag is cinched up tight and worn around the waist.

A cotton-linen shirt jacket paired with linen blend shorts. Perfect for travel, this bag can be slung across the body and fits everything you need.

This straight-legged jumpsuit is made from a lightweight linen blend. It has pockets on both sides and a waist ribbon that can be tied in the front or back.

Ace Hotel & Swim Club Athens

In fall 2024, what’s currently the only Ace Hotel in Europe opened a thirty-minute drive from Athens, down the coast. Housed in a former hotel whose retro modern facade has been preserved, the facility has been redone on the inside to align with Ace’s standards. Glance out the windows of the rooms, and you’ll see the sunny swimming pool behind the name.

Sleeveless dress with built-in bra cups. Made from a comfy material that’s ribbed like a tank top, but with a flattering silhouette.

A casual bra top tucked into linen-blend shorts for a dressier look. The mesh fabric bag feels cool against the skin all summer long.

ANÄNA coffee

Different kinds of yellow pop up everywhere in Athens. Taxis, kiosks, telephones. Same goes for the benches of ANÄNA coffee, a vegan and vegetarian eatery that opened in 2019. According to the owners, the color comes from the floor tiles of the stately building. It matches Athens all too well. And by the way, the coffee is delicious.

Praxitelous 33, Athens, Greece

Olive goes great with yellow. Dry crewneck tucked into linen-blend pants. The mesh belt fends off summer sweat.

Linen and cotton open-collar shirt paired with the pants shown above, but in a different color. The navy has a vibe like lightweight denim. Luca wears a classic white cotton dress has a ribbed waist, a bloomy skirt, and a slit at the back of the neck.

Seersucker shorts worn with a linen shirt in the same yellow hue. On days when the sun is strong, don’t forget a breezy crochet hat.

These relaxed easy pants are made from a linen blend. T-shirt tucked, drawstring tied in a bow.

VOIS architects

Alex and Luca took a forty-minute flight from Athens to Paros, where they boarded a fifteen-minute ferry to the small island of Antiparos. This relaxed summer house was designed by Athens design studio VOIS architects.

With a delicately gathered collar and puffy sleeves, this linen blend blouse is worn like a tee with denim-like cotton shorts.

Summer dress made from linen blend striped fabric. The matching waist belt and buttons offer a smart tailored look.

Linen shirt, shorts and dry crewneck. Working with one set of tones makes planning outfits on the road a no-brainer. If it gets warm, simply roll up the sleeves.

Whites glow in the setting sun. Casually rolled sleeves, hem tucked into pleated pants. A cardigan tied loose enough to flutter in the wind.

Athens, four lovable personalities

Athens is dense. Consistently incoherent. That’s what keeps me obsessed with her. The city’s treat is her seven hills, each with its own urban pilgrimage and generous 360° vistas. There the noise fades and the sea appears closer – an endless urban mass tempting you to go down again and explore more, and even jump to the nearby islands.

Athens is mostly sunny. Her small-scale urban blocks are perfect for walking and loitering – from incidental architectural juxtapositions to family shops of lost crafts and tiny yellow kiosks randomly selling sesame rings. Her low buildings allow sun rays to slip through, and surprise you quite often with unexpected views of the Acropolis.

Athens loves to remember as much as she wants to forget. Ordinary corners in the city can take you back in time, and voids often tell stories of loss. My bookshop stands between some ruins of the ancient city wall, a three-generation letterpress printshop, and the shut doors of a secret 1970s restaurant.

Athens never sleeps. She is a youngster who knows how to enjoy life. Although classical at first glance, if you observe her streets she is wearing all kinds of garments. Creative at heart, expressive, rebellious, can’t fit into boxes. Athens has her ups and downs. She's honest. She speaks her truth and she's craving to jump into philosophical discussions, especially if you come from abroad. Always seeks to define and redefine herself.
