Modern preppy is the theme of this season’s UNIQLO and JW ANDERSON collection. Originating in the fashion trends of 1980s prep schools in the Northeastern US, the style’s perhaps best described as a casual update to trad.

The key here is understanding what “casual” entails. Drawing examples from the preceding pages, here’s some rules and ideas on how to use the style.Link toGood Morning, New York City

1.Clean and Neat

A preppy haircut is consummately tidy, as a point of contrast to the casual elements of the style.

2.Turn it Up!

Polo shirts, a must-have, work equally well on their own or layered with an Oxford shirt or jacket. Popping the collar gives the outfit extra dimensionality.

3.Iconic Navy

Navy blazers with metal buttons never go out of style. During spring and summer, dress on the sporty side. The ultra light blazer on the page is just right for keeping cool in warmer weather.

4.It’s ALL in the Wrist

Opt for classic timepieces. Trade the standard wristband for a colorful design.

5.Sporty Vibe

Athletics that sharpen the mind and body are a key component of the preppy style. Striped rugby shirts and tennis-inspired polos are essential. Long sleeve items can be draped over the shoulders or tied around the waist.

6.The Baggy Straight

Instead of slacks, style your blazer with a pair of chinos. Go with a looser silhouette and slightly messy cuffs. Just high enough to show the ankles. Or mix it up with a green pair of cargo pants.

2.Turn it Up!

Polo shirts, a must-have, work equally well on their own or layered with an Oxford shirt or jacket. Popping the collar gives the outfit extra dimensionality.

4.It’s ALL in the Wrist

Opt for classic timepieces. Trade the standard wristband for a colorful design.

7.Classic Shoes

Though wearing shoes without socks may have started as a “lazy” style on Ivy League campuses, it looks sharp to this day. Penny loafers and boat shoes are good options here.

1.Authentic Glasses

For celluloid frames, go with Wellington or Boston styles in black, tortoiseshell or brown. Authentic metal frames are also great. Find a new favorite in the feature.

2.How to Roll?

Sleeves can be rolled however you like, just keep the look a little rough. We recommend a cuff-like roll. First unbutton the sleeve and do a big fold. Then roll again from the bottom edge. Stop before the elbow for the right balance.

3.Loose Knots

Regimental ties are another wardrobe must. For a casual style, keep the knot small and on the looser side. It’s okay to unbutton the collar.

4.Oxford Forever

Oxford shirts, a UNIQLO staple, are a classic choice. Don’t miss the new women’s shirt in a boxy silhouette on the page. You can skip the ironing; a well-laundered look is key.

5.Cool Seersucker

Seersucker is practically synonymous with preppy. The crinkled surface keeps you cool, and because of the material’s trad roots, it looks classy even in a pair of easy shorts.

1.Over the Shoulders

Draping a layer over the shoulders is a simple way to change an outfit instantly. Whether it’s a sweater or a shirt, fold down the collar first, for a nice clean drape.

2.Small Embroidery

Monograms are a very preppy touch. Traditionally embroidered at the waist or cuffs. Visit RE.UNIQLO STUDIO for custom services.

3.Canvas Tote

Lightweight totes are great, but a heavy-duty canvas tote gives your outfit an American feel without looking too conservative.
